Why aren't we building communication technology, pirate communication technology, with the stuff we have?

Do i have to care?
I just want to care if it helps me with creating freedom.
If they want to govern technology, can we slap sticks together, or something?
Can we print computer chips and build our own shit?
I want to work for freedom.
I don't want to buy freedom.
